Who is responsible for your information?
Our Astro Journey is operated by Matt Brambley. For data-protection purposes, Our Astro Journey is the controller of personal information it decides how and why to process.
Questions or privacy requests can be sent to matt@ourastrojourney.com.
Information we may process
Website visits and analytics
If you choose to allow optional analytics cookies, Google Analytics may collect information about how the site is used, such as pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser information and referral information. We use this to understand which pages are useful and to improve the site. Optional analytics is not loaded until you accept it.
Contact messages
If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you provide. The form is processed through Formspree, so that provider also processes the submitted information in order to deliver the message.
Location-based astronomy tools
Some tools can use a location you enter or, with your browser's permission, your device location. We use it to calculate or request local astronomy information such as weather, target visibility or transit opportunities. Device location is only requested after you choose a location feature. Some preferences may be stored locally in your browser so you do not have to enter them again.
Connected social accounts
Where a supported social integration is offered and you choose to connect an account, we may process the account identifier, display name, permissions you grant, access/refresh tokens, public post information and performance metrics made available by that platform. For TikTok this may include public video metadata and metrics such as view, like, comment and share counts where the authorised scopes allow it.
Social access tokens are stored server-side in encrypted form. They are used only to provide the connected features you request. You can revoke the platform permission through the platform itself and, where available, disconnect the account from Our Astro Journey.
Technical and security information
Hosting and security services may process routine technical information such as IP addresses, request times, browser information and server logs to deliver and protect the website.
Why we use information
- To provide the page, tool or connected-account feature you asked to use.
- To respond to messages and review enquiries.
- To keep the site and connected services secure and diagnose problems.
- To improve content and features using optional analytics where you have consented.
- To analyse performance of authorised social content so creator tools can learn which content formats are useful.
Where UK data-protection law applies, the legal basis depends on the activity. Optional analytics uses consent. Responding to requests and providing requested features may rely on taking steps at your request or legitimate interests in operating and improving the service. Security processing may rely on legitimate interests and legal obligations.
Cookies and local storage
We use necessary browser storage for functions such as remembering preferences and keeping private areas secure. Optional Google Analytics is only enabled after you choose Allow analytics. You can reject optional analytics without losing normal access to the public website.
You can reopen the analytics choice using the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Who information may be shared with
We do not sell personal information. Information may be processed by service providers only where needed to run the website or a feature. Depending on what you use, these may include website hosting providers, Google Analytics, Formspree and social platforms such as TikTok. Astronomy tools may also request public data from external astronomy, weather or space-data services.
Third-party services operate under their own privacy terms and may process information in countries outside the UK. Where we choose a processor, we aim to use appropriate safeguards required by applicable data-protection law.
How long we keep information
We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose it was collected for. Contact messages may be retained while an enquiry or working relationship remains relevant. Social connection tokens are retained while the connection is active and should be removed when the account is disconnected. Performance snapshots may be retained to compare content over time unless deletion is requested or they are no longer needed.
Browser preferences remain on your device until they expire, are replaced or you clear them.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to ask for access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent. To make a request, email matt@ourastrojourney.com.
You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you are unhappy with how personal information has been handled.
Children
The public astronomy content can be read by families, but connected social-account and account-management features are not intended to collect children's personal information. If we learn that personal information has been provided by a child inappropriately, we will take reasonable steps to remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site, connected services or legal requirements change. The date at the top shows the latest published version.
